Now that the plans are afoot for the Grand Gala Polls overseas, I bring our attention to the next event planned towards the elections.
Before the mesmerizing Poll Dance, there is another exciting event that captures my interest. The Derby Dealings of Democrazy. This is a pre-poll dance rehearsals and is full of twists and turns and suspense galore.
The action shifts to the ground now. The Derby Dealings is a game of cat and mouse. It is about how horses align themselves and in which line in the horse race. The only difference is that our game replaces horses with asses, oops politicians.
Let me explain the rules of the game. In fact, the best part is that there are no rules.
- All our horses plan to run in race tracks where there is least opposition.
- Some horses who are in doubt of their capabilities or track record have an option of running from two or more different derby matches at the same time. Yes, time and place can be merged in this game. Einstein, Hawking, Sheldon - boo boo!!!!
- Horses need to follow the diktats from the Owners and Jockeys in Delhi but they have a choice of expressing their dissent.
- Horses who shift their loyalties because of not being given a number to run the race usually score well. These are called as horsetrades.
- Some horses who do not get a number to run, have the option to field their spouses or sons/daughters in the race. Historically it has been seen that the races are won even if the fielded ones are spouses. Here, race matters than the pace.
- Some interesting Derbies are where a long dead, old laggard horse still believes that it is a pony and can fly in the wind. These are called disillusioned horses. They usually cry and whine and complain but because of their past trophies, they are tolerated though the old world tolerance is now giving way to jockeys complaining openly. The old warhorses are a pain. These horses were traditionally used for Rath Yatras or chariots.
- Another interesting facet about this game is that some of the horses are traditionally been running in the same derby for years. If a horse runs in the same derby for 3 times or more, it becomes it's home turf. Amazing Amethi Derby is one of them. In such a scenario, the young mare gets to run against tortoises or the best part is sometimes the horse gets to run the derby alone!!! Yups!!! All alone!!! But alas, even in such situations, history has shown that the lone mare came last!!!!
- In many Derbies, the horses themselves have to bring in the prize money to contest the race. Many industrious horses follow this route.
- This is an expensive game. To coerce a horse to run slow or to run for some other jockey or some other owner involves huge amounts of money.
This is one race where, race, political/monetary/religious base, a shameless face with a cash filled briefcase in varied combination wins the race!!!!
