Last week saw a laundry day for the first family of Tamil Nadu politics. MK Alagiri, the elder son of DMK supremo Karunanidhi was expelled from the party because of his activities being seen as anti party. MK Stalin, the younger sibling is seen widely as the heir apparent to the most powerful political family south of Vindhyas.
This is not something new. The family infighting has been going on for quite some time now and this was perhaps the last straw. The Kalaignar,(writer in Tamil) as he is fondly called, has been relying on MK Stalin to take over the party. Alagiri has been spewing venom ever since.
Last week, DMK chief announced that MK Alagiri has been suspended from all party positions because of his anti party activities. On probing for details, it emerged that last evening, Alagiri had visited his father and told him that Stalin would dye in 3 months. No father can tolerate such harsh words against his son, even if it comes from his son. The patriarch further went on to add that Alagiri himself had been dyeing for all these many years and as a father he did not make any noise about it.
When a scribe asked Karunanidhi, was this a matter serious enough to warrant the expulsion of Alagiri, thus came the response," MK Stalin is my hair apparent. So anything small or big related to my hair is of great importance. Anyways I have less of them left now."
Karunanidhi then went on to give his rationale," Alagiri is trying to indicate that I do not have any vision. I wear black glasses. So, even Stalin's white strands would appear as black to me. He is trying to make fun of me."
Alagiri called for a press conference the same evening. "This is the birthday gift I have got from my father". The scribes were not able to understand but when Alagiri brought out a brush and showed it to the reporters. When one reporter questioned about the brush, Alagiri replied that this was the same brush that Karunanidhi had been using to brush him down the carpet in the recent years. His supporters broke into applause.
Karunanidhi rebuffed Alagiri's press conference as a complete nonsense. He reiterated that Stalin always had strong roots and a glowing mane over his superior brain. Stalin would not dye ever, the Kalaignar insisted.
Karunanidhi declared that Alagiri was being used as a puppet by the black maned aMMa!!! When a scribe asked for more details, Karunanidhi faked temporary memory loss and replied, hair today, gone tomorrow.
