no BUDGE no JAT !!!!! only BUDGEJAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The last week saw many an envent unfolding in front of us in quick succession!!!! The monumental pachyderms were firmly made to ride the bicycles in UP and thin down as the state saw it's youngest Chief Minister in Akhilesh. If the melee that followed the swearing-in ceremony was any indicator on the things to unfold - none was disappointed!!! Raja Bhaiyya has been given the prison portfolio. What an irony!!!! We just hope he spends more time in his office "Cell" now - how foresighted is Akhilesh!!!!. We just hope that SP proves itself to be a SamajWorthy party this term atleast!!!!!

The week also was the week of the budgets. With Railways budget and national budget were presented - the former made news for all the strange reasons. The rail budget saw a game of suspense being played out between Didi and Dinesh Trivedi. This is how they planned this Hitchcockian episode of suspense.

DT - Didi, pronom, this is the rail budget.

Didi - Ok, go and present it in the parliament

DT - Didi, I have increased the fares as railways is in a bad shape.

Didi - Ok, I will protest and get a roll back on fare hikes.

DT - Didi, should I make any changes now, before presentation?

Didi - No!!!! Else how will I show that I am pro-poor and populist measures weaning politician?

DT - but what will happen to me Didi, when you will protest against my budget?

Didi - Dont worry, you will be resigning from your post.

DT - but Didi, what will I do after that?

Didi- The same as that you were doing before becoming the rail minister.

DT - But Didi, I was not doing anything then!!!

Didi- Exactly, do just that now as well!!! Mulkul will be given the portfolio of railways for sometime and then after some months - you take over from Mukul when we create one more ruckus on something trivial.

DT - What an idea didi!!!!

Also, this week, Pronobda presented one more budget to the nation. He aptly quoted Hamlet, when he said that he had to be cruel in order to be kind. What he actually meant was -

he will raise prices to bring down the costs,

he will get the PM to approve the rail budget only to accept the rollback in fare hikes,

he will get the PM to accept Trivedi's resignation only to regret it while accepting the same,

he will bring down the subsidies component of the GDP to only 1.75% by 2015 but the next year's budget will fly through the roof to appease the electorate before the next polls,

he will increase income tax exemption limit only to increase indirect taxes to mop up more than what was discounted for,

he will discount customs and import duties for aviation spares but continue to provide some Good Times to some cash-strapped Kings,

he will mop up thousands of crores from spectrum auctions only to increase service taxes on mobile bills,

The general outlook towards this budget has been this - Pronob babu has not budged from his middle of the road approach of a nothing-new-to-offer budgets. Perhaps, he is saving all his fireworks for the next year's pre election budget!!!!!!

Last heard from Pronobda before he entered the Parliament with his now-ubiquitous briefcase was,"Yeh dhaai kilo ka briefcase jab mere haath mein aata hai, to desh uthta nahin.... uth jaata hai"...

Allow me to be cruel in order to be kind;

nowhere else this type of a budget - one will find,

I am, but, a conductor of this driverless bus,

where each passenger creates his own new fuss,

The rail-ly practical budget went into the bin,

Trivedi did not realize- he was just a fish without a fin,

overindulgence for Railways is not good in my view,

get ready to see it next year in the ICU,

Mamta is the biggest thorn in the path to set asail,

soon we will be forced to swap the cycle with the rail,

coalition politics is impending my judgement,

I have to appease my partners over public resentment,

Manmohan is in a difficult position,

On this, Yashwant Sinha goes ahead and makes fun,

In the office, he has to tackle the coalition mob,

at the same time, he needs to get done the Italian Job!!!!!!!!
