Life is so unpredictable. So was business. The election results are out and people have given their verdict. I humbly accept the same and offer my congratulations to my opponent. May he perform to the best of his limited abilities. The people of my constituency could have deserved better but they know what is good for them.
The last couple of weeks have been quite uneasy ones. With our party losing out across all fronts, things have never been so bleak for our organization in its sixty year history. Many people advised me in the last month to just quietly move out and get back to corporate life. "Do it before the blame game picks up", I was told.
Being an ex Infoscion, I am still Powered by Intellect and Driven by values. I remain steadfast with Congress. Life in politics is so similar to the one in business, I keep on wondering. Each time a situation presents itself, I find this more and more true.
When in Infosys, we used to bid for many big projects and contracts. We won some we lost some. Our business principle was - don't get swayed by wins, don't get beaten up by losses. How similar is our CMD Antonia Maino's vision. When in power for 2 terms, she never got swayed by the many insinuations and allegations of corruption and nepotism. Now that we have been routed fair and square, we refuse to be beaten up.
In Infosys, we used to have a "post mortem camp or a PMC" A similar concept has been envisaged in the Congress party. To rejuvenate our senses and our deflated spirits, Antonia along with Raoul plan a month long PMC at a resort in a small village on the outskirts of Rome in Italy. Wow!!! This is really amazing!!!
And there is some online campaign about Modi's punishing foreign tours for opposition members. Somebody does have a dirty mind!!!!
We all receive email from our CMD to this effect. There is a catch though!!! The list of members will be chosen by the High Command after a scrutiny of loyalty and long term service ambitions. Well, this just seems to be a formality. Even in Infosys, we had the HR to select the resources for the Post Mortem Camp. The PM always had the final say. Here as well, I guess our CMD will have the final say. I am already in her good books. I am by far the most fluent Italian speaker in our organization!!! She knows this. Well, I hurry back home to inform Rohini to pack my bags. Like the good old days, I will be globe trotting once again!!!
Two days have passed, I have not received any notification in this regard. I check my mails intermittently but there is nothing in the inbox. On the third day, I call up Raoul. To my amazement, he is in Italy.
"Hey Nandosconi!!! I am missing you man!!! It is so amazing here. You know what, I have been officially made the GOD FATHER of the Congress. We Italians have this practice of having a Godfather and here I have become one!!! Mamma made me the Godfather!!! Wow!!! I am thrilled!!!"
I offer him my wishes and hang up. It then dawns upon me!!! How could I have not interpreted this!!! after a scrutiny of loyalty and long term service ambitions.- This was a clear indication that I needed to be in Delhi at Antonia's house for selection. Our organization is far more advanced than the IT industry. Actual physical scrutiny happens before being sent for a PMC!!!! No relying on the incompetent HR!!!!!
