I day NAMO Namaha!!!

What a way to begin this day!!! The 68th Independence Day begun with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisting the National Flag from the ramparts of the grand Red Fort, New Delhi.

After hoisting the Tricolour at the Red Fort in New Delhi, Modi delivered his first Independence Day speech at the venue, describing himself as the country's "Pradhan Sevak (prime public servant)".

Modi's speech was a refreshing change from the previous decade's speeches delivered from this historic venue.

There were many firsts associated with this Prime Minister making the Independence Day speech.

  1. He was the first Non Congress PM to give the Independence Day speech in this millennium.
  2. He was the first PM to have worn a turban while delivering his speech.
  3. He was perhaps the first PM to have given a speech without turning to Italians for advice.
  4. He was the first PM in decades, for whose speech; a billion plus Indians were waiting in anticipation.
With so many firsts associated with this speech, it was truly history being written.

There were some minor changes from the previous years like doing away with the bullet proof enclosure, speaking extempore or interacting and signing autographs for kids who had come to see the I-day celebrations

The speech was a symbol of changing times. When Indians are looking forward to firmly claim their rightful status, the speech was on topical matters - growth, societal crimes, public ownership concepts et al.

All is well, you might seem relaxed and off your guard!!! Hell no!!! Congress has hit back and how!!! For each point that BJP patted itself on the back, Congress was ready for a kick on the back!!!

NO BULLET PROOF SHIELD
Congress has clarified that ex PM Manmohan Singh used to have the bullet proof shield only to help him see his own reflection on the shield. This way, he could pretend looking at the audience (Madam) but all the while was seeing his own visage. This boosted his confidence.

NO TYPED NOTES
Again, Manish Tewari clarified,"The sheets of paper that were to be seen in Dr. Singh's hand
were just to nourish his confidence. They were calligraphic in Italics in nature and not typed. Also, with all due respect; Mr. Singh was a sparse speaker not resorting to complexities of the language taking a languorous route to drive home simple points".

MAKE IN INDIA CAMPAIGN
Ever the ready one to ridicule opposition; Mani Shankar Aiyar retorted back," What Modi is promising now, was delivered way back under the Congress Government. Made in India was a huge success. This had been released by Alisha Chinoy way back in 1995, under the Government of P.V. Narasimha Rao. It was, quoting Modi's words- Zero Defect and Super Effects. Seriously, the BJP needs to check its facts first before they present their acts".

BANK ACCOUNTS FOR EVERY INDIAN
This time, P Chidambaram jumped in the volley of words," Mr. Modi is thinking about the future, what Congress has achieved in its past. Mr. Modi should go to Liechtenstein. This small country bordering France and Switzerland has banks in every nook and corner. Ask them to share details of the accounts held by Indians and he will come to know.  During the 2 regimes of Congress, the Congress government made significant inroads in opening millions and millions of accounts in the names of Indians in these banks. It is just that we conformed to the Banking Secrecy Rules of this country and hence did not inform the people whose names were used".

PRADHAN SEVAK
This time, all the 3 Gandhis were heard laughing aloud!!!! What else did people think Mr. Singh was!!!!! This was so stupid that it even did not merit a response!!!

MAUN MOHAN BAL YOJANA
In spite of all the barbs being traded between the Congress and the BJP, Congress decided to let things be. This was after the final announcement made by Modi in the evening of 15th August.

Modi announced that the autobiography of Mr. Manmohan Singh' s life as PM would be distributed across all schools of India. Each student would get a copy of this book. The HRD minister Smriti Irani chipped in," we want Mr. Singh's autobiography should be used by each and every child of the country. The Ministry of Human Research and Development is proud to be associated with this MAUN MOHAN BAL YOJANA!!!"

In the coming days, the book was made available to each and every child student of the country. Modi delivered what he promised.
