Things seldom happen the way they were planned!!! Same has been the case with the plans that BCCI had in mind.
The first test match in Eden Gardens marking the 199th test match for Sachin was supposed to be the test bed for the grand finale. The marketing plans, ticket sales, evening parties, entertainment shows etc. All were planned as a rehearsal for the grand finale at Mumbai but alas, man proposes, Umpire Vampire disposes.
The test match ended on the third day with India winning the match but was that the intention? It never was!!!! Some swift decisions have to be taken as remedial measures. If a similar misfortune were to occur at the Tendulkar Stadium in the coming week, it would spell disaster!!!
Sharad Pawar is a worried man. He sits down with a bowl of Onion Soup and starts taking some swift actions.
- Umpire Nigel Llong has been herewith suspended from cricket for life. Could he not see who was the batsman in question but focused his attention on whether the ball could have hit the stumps or not!!! It was concluded without doubt that Nigel lacked in fine appreciation of epic events. How else could he have declared the Little Master out when the entire world is waiting to see him play!! He being in such a pivotal position should have enjoyed Sachin in his glory rather than dispatching him to the pavilion.
- To take matters into its own hands - Sharad Pawar himself gets to prepare an amendment to the Cricket Rule Book which is maintained by Marylebone Cricket Club. The drafting of the amendments is tasked to the renowned author and cricket historian Ramachandra Guha.
AMENDMENT TO LAWS OF CRICKET - An Express Case of Exception.
- These amendments are valid and applicable only for a predefined duration of time as determined by the BCCI and can be either revoked or extended depending on the BCCI on regular basis.
- These amendments can be restricted to either the entire cricketing fraternity or it's part thereof on need basis.
- Besides the third umpire, the other batsman at the crease can request for a BCCI Umpire for another review of the decision for his partner. The decision by BCCI umpire will overrule all previous decisions. The batsman under the pending decision cannot request this but the other batsman can. Except for clean bowled and clear catches, all other scenarios will come under the purview of this umpire.
- Cricket is a Gentleman's game and such should be the proceedings during the match as well. Individuals approaching personal milestones (century, 3 wickets, 5 wickets, 100 matches, highest runs etc) will be accorded special status. They should be allowed to achieve their milestones. Players cannot be declared out beyond 95 runs, for example. Players cannot be declared out in their 100th, 200th matches etc. Let the spirit of the game be upheld. Between this and the point above, this one overwrites the previous one.
The Laws of Cricket book is quickly updated. Some minor voices of dissent are heard from the English Cricket Board but .... who cares!!!
Sharad Pawar is a pleased man. The Eden Garden fiasco will and cannot be repeated now, he mulls, sipping his Onion juice.
The M day is fast approaching. All aspects of the grand finale need to be checked and rechecked.
