The recent events that unfolded in the Islamabad Court did manage to get my attention. Ex President and XX Pakistani Army Chief Pervez Musharraf was brought to the court to face trial for treason - a rare for any Pakistani Army Chief!!! Musharraf was charged with the arrest of judges way back in 2007 when he imposed emergency and initiated a coup d'etat to oust the government of the day.
As soon as the judges pronounced the man guilty of acts against the nation, Musharraf quickly just walked out of the court ensconced by his security staff and was whisked away in a motorcade to his farmhouse outskirts of Islamabad. The police posse stationed at the court stood as mere spectators while the Television channels captured in full glory - the blatant abuse of power.
The controversial army chief has not been seeing the best of days over the last few years. The most memorable ones for Pakistan were the 4 years of his self imposed exile in London. He wrote a book whose title today returns to haunt him - In the Line of Fire.
He was then arrested from his farm house the next day and placed under house arrest in the same house that he was arrested from!!!! What a poetic justice one might say!!!! He had placed the Chief Justice of Pakistan under house arrest in 2007 and the same fate has befallen him today.
Not known to the world yet, a video recording of a statement was prepared by Mushy in the evening he spent after "escaping" from the court. Whether this will ever be broadcast or not is not known so without much ado... here it is - the transcript!!!.
To the People of Pakistan, it is one of the most unfortunate days in the history of our Great Nation that a former Army Chief and a former President has to go through this ordeal of an arrest. It is a shameful happening which cannot be condoned. I have always endeavoured to uphold the high moral and honourable legacy that was bestowed upon me when the Nation demanded of the Army to act and bring normalcy to the country.
What if during that time, I had to keep some people under lock and key? No big deal, I would say. The very same people are today targeting me in an act of vendetta. The courts were closed for the day when they were kept under house arrest. Next day, when I was firmly in power - I did release them immediately. It just happened that the courts ceased to exist from that day.
All allegations against me are complete lies and fabricated to stall my second innings as the President. I had never sided the terrorists in any manner - whether financially, strategically, politically or any other means.
During my regime, I ensured the safety of one and all without any favouritism. All people of Pakistan were equally unsafe in my rule!!!! A certain Ms. Bhutto had no reason to cry foul. This is one allegation that I have exonerated myself off just now!!!
I have now decided to give up a life in active politics now. I recall a quote written by a remarkable contemporary writer," Politics is not my cup of tea anymore, corruption used to be such a sweetener until I developed Diabetes".
I have planned a different life for myself - away from all this. I have planned to start a grocery and dairy enterprise with my close friend who - just like me, has met with similar fate in his land.
Presenting for your consumption - The Bush and Mush Stores!!!!!
I will work hard and live a simple life and have simpler goals and more simpler dreams....this again reminds me of a quote by the same writer,"Tea is such an addictive thing ..damn it; a less of sweetener should not make a difference, rarely in politics has health taken any toll".
